High strength and low weight at a reasonable cost, aluminum driveshafts are used in passenger car, light truck and racing applications. In passenger cars they reduce weight, increasing performance and fuel economy. In light trucks they allow a lightweight single piece driveshaft to do the job of a much heavier two piece steel driveshaft, increasing fuel economy and payload. In racing they increase the HP to weight ratio and reduce "flywheel" weight for better performance.
